About this home

I was born six years after the Cherokee Land Run and eight years before Oklahoma statehood. But once the dust had settled around the blossoming town of Enid I made my entrance. My first owner, an influential businessman, hired local craftsman to build a solid house to last for generations with just enough character to make the house special for the family and to impress clients. Rooted within the original Enid City plot plan, I have watched the city grow from my viewpoint on the east hill within easy walking distance of the city square. Government Springs Parks and other recreation are just a leisurely stroll around the corner. Perched just above Broadway with a welcoming porch swing and a barrel ceiling over the front door I have caught the eye of many a traveler. And if the light is just right, they catch a glimpse of the Stained Glass topping the Living room window. When guests arrive they enter into a large foyer with sitting bench before stepping into the Living room with a turn-of-century light fixture overhead. Glass inset French Doors beckon into the Dining room complete with built in Hutch and an outside door leading to the wrap around porch for an after meal respite. The Kitchen is perfect for a house of my size complete with dishwasher, double sink, garbage disposal and Gas Range/Oven and plenty of cabinet storage. Adjacent to the Kitchen is a Utility room to the east and a window filled back porch (Sunroom) to the south. Beyond the sunroom is the fenced in backyard with access to the two car garage with two overhead doors via alley access. Great for an additional workshop, storage or to even park your car ! My three bedrooms have provided rest for a handful of generations and welcomed many a guest. Though my colors have changed over the years, a fresh coat of paint may be to your liking. The Bathroom has marble style flooring and the tub/shower has white subway tile surround. A pedestal sink sits next to a floor-to-ceiling storage cabinet. Though I consider myself a modest home, I have caught the eye of various print magazines over the years. Sturm's Oklahoma Magazine, Oct 1907, Vol 5 - No 2, published an article titled "Enid, The Metropolis of Northern Oklahoma". And there I was on page 94. Wow, don't I look good ! The City of Enid Historic Architecture Survey of 1992 also has me upon the pages: "The house at 617 was shown in a magazine in 1900 and has not been changed. The arch in the porch roof is repeated over the doorway and a pane of stained glass shimmers over the window." And there's my picture again on page 9. And I'm still looking good. Enid has been called "A Gem City" and I like to sparkle ! I've had a great history and have seen grand things happen within and around me. But now I'm looking for someone to make me their home. Maybe freshen me up a bit. And together we'll step into the future making new memories.
